Board of Health Appoints Commissioner of Health

Lexington, Kentucky, May 12, 2025 – The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department (LFCHD) is pleased to announce the Board of Health has appointed Dr. Crystal Miller to serve as Commissioner of Health for Lexington-Fayette County. Dr. Miller has served as director of the WEDCO District Health Department, which serves Harrison, Nicholas, and Scott counties in Kentucky, for nearly eighteen years.

Dr. Miller is a strong advocate for public health and has served in various capacities at the local, state and national level. From 2014-2018, she served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of County and City Health Officials and on the Kentucky Health Department Association Executive Committee. She has also earned numerous awards for her work in public health, including Kentucky Department for Public Health “Trailblazer” and “Outgoing Director” awards.

She was named Georgetown “Citizen of the Year” in 2020 for her exceptional leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic response. She served on the Board of Directors for the Georgetown-Scott County Chamber, the Scott County United Board of Directors, and the Scott County Chamber Women in Business.

Dr. Miller worked for the University of Kentucky (UK) College of Public Health for more than seven years prior to coming to WEDCO. Dr. Miller holds three degrees from the University of Kentucky: a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education, Master’s in Public Health, and Doctor of Public Health.

“I look forward to locking arms with the team at the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department and continuing the strong public health work that is already being done. I was born and raised in Lexington, and graduated from Bryan Station High School. Being given the opportunity to serve my hometown in this capacity is exciting. I look forward to building relationships and forming partnerships that will continue to advance public health in our community”, Dr. Miller said.

The Board of Health and the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department congratulate Dr. Miller and are excited for her upcoming service in our community.

Dr. Miller replaces Dr. Steve Davis, who has served as LFCHD Interim Commissioner of Health since October 2024. She will begin serving Lexington-Fayette County in July, 2025.
